To many people, a medical career consists of being a doctor, nurse, or dentist. However, there are a wide variety of qualified people who assist with caring for patients alongside the more well-known professionals. Here are three types of medical professionals.

1. Emergency Medical Technicians

Emergency medical technicians, along with paramedics, are the ones who are first on the scene when someone has an accident or calls for medical assistance. EMTs may complete tasks such as bandaging a cut or providing CPR to someone who is having trouble breathing on their own. EMTs must usually pass a series of EMT training courses Texas prior to becoming qualified to work in the field.

2. Radiologic Technicians

Radiologic technicians specialize in using X-ray imaging equipment to take images of patients’ bones and internal organs. These pictures help doctors and dentists with diagnosing conditions that are not visible to the naked eye. Because this is what these technicians do on a daily basis, they become very good at knowing how to place a patient’s foot or hand on the machine to get the best possible image. In order to become an X-ray technician, you must be certified in operating the appropriate equipment as well as in analyzing the X-ray images.

3. Pharmacists

Pharmacists oversee the distribution of prescription medications to patients from doctors. Another major part of their job is to ensure that the patient knows how to use the medication safely and avoids any negative interactions that may occur with the use of a second mediation concurrently. Pharmacists and their technicians also advise patients about the side effects of the drugs they are taking, as well as which side effects are severe enough to consider a medical emergency. Pharmacies may also offer vaccines and wellness screenings.

These are three types of medical professionals among the many that work in the healthcare field.
