A Californian teenager who was autistic and went missing three-years ago has been found his family. Connerjack Oswalt was identified as an autistic teenager in California. He disappeared three years ago.
According to the National Missing Unidentified Persons System, he was 16 years old when he vanished from Clearlake, California.
According to SF Gate Oswalt had a history of “running away” before he left home. Oswalt ran away with his cat and his mother in May 2019 after his phone was stolen. He returned to his home in May 2019, but he ran away in September 2019.
The Summit County Sheriff’s Office in Utah received numerous reports about a teenage boy who was often seen pushing a shopping cart, and then sleeping at Jeremy Ranch.
Oswalt was the teen. As captured by the police bodycam footage, he was seen sitting in front the store while shivering. He was approached by an officer who asked him to get into a patrol car to heat up.
The officer asked him for his consent, but he refused to reveal his name. However, he was able to scan his fingerprint and match it to the case of a missing person.
Justin Martinez, the Summit Sheriff, described Oswalt’s resistance and reluctance to communicate as Oswalt.
They contacted Oswalt’s family and his stepfather drove from Idaho through Utah to pick him. The family had moved to California over the past two years they searched for him.
Gerald Flint, Oswalt’s stepfather, said to CBS 5: “We have had a lot false hope over these two and a quarter years.”
The Sheriff recalled the joyous occasion and said that he hadn’t seen anything quite like it since Elizabeth Smart disappeared. There, a person who had been missing for a while was not only found, but also found alive.
Elizabeth Smart, a 14-year old girl, was kidnapped by her parents in 2002. She was held captive for nine months by her captors before she was finally found and reunited her family. You can only imagine the joy her family felt after months of intense search.
The Sheriff stated, “There wasn’t a dry eye inside the room. The Sheriff said that they were reunited with the individual they hadn’t seen in three years, when he was 16. He is now 19.
We can only imagine how his parents felt relief. Oswalt’s profile has been removed from most missing persons sites and databases.
