Indian Institutes of Technology

The IITs are India’s most renowned and prestigious engineering colleges. They are autonomous technical higher education institutions, with their B.Tech courses being the most famous. In India, the Institute of Technology Act, 1961, which creates a common IT council, regulates the 23 IITs currently in operation.

Admission Process

The admission process is highly competitive and does not make it easy to enter an IIT. Thousands of candidates apply every year for a few seats, but the only way to fulfill the dream of becoming part of this prestigious institution is by becoming the best among them.

Candidates must appear for the Joint Entrance Exam (JEE) to be eligible for IIT entry. There are two parts: initially, there is JEE Main, and on clearing that the candidates need to appear for JEE Advanced. The candidates who come under the top 2.5 lacs candidates of JEE Main will appear for JEE advanced. There are 2 other criteria for admission to the IITs. The candidates need to have 75% aggregate marks in the class 12 board examination and should be a part of the top 20 percentile candidates in their respective boards.

Once the candidates clear these examinations and fulfill all eligibility criteria, they need to appear for the counseling session organized by the Joint Seat Allocation Authority for seats and specializations. For admission into the PG courses in IIT, the candidates need to have a valid score in the GATE.
